Slack & Microsoft Teams

ResponseDock can post a message to Slack or Microsoft Teams each time a survey receives a new response, and send a daily digest of completed responses to a Slack channel. Notifications are configured per survey; the digest is configured per workspace.

Connect Slack

Slack notifications go through a Slack connection on the Connected apps page. Either kind of connection works:

  • Slack incoming webhook: paste an incoming webhook URL created in your Slack app; messages go to the channel the webhook belongs to.
  • Slack OAuth connection: connect your Slack workspace and enter the ID of the channel to post to.

Notify Slack on New Responses

  1. Open the survey and go to Survey settings → Integrations & bot protection.
  2. Under Notify Slack on new response, pick the Slack connection.
  3. Choose Include answers to post the answers, or leave it off to post a summary only.
  4. Save, then send a test message to check the connection.

Messages use Slack Block Kit. Text from respondents is escaped before it is posted, so answers cannot mention channels or users or inject formatting.

Notify Microsoft Teams on New Responses

Teams notifications use an incoming webhook URL, which you create in Teams with a Power Automate workflow (for example the "Post to a channel when a webhook request is received" template).

  1. In Survey settings → Integrations & bot protection, paste the Teams webhook URL.
  2. Choose whether to include answers.
  3. Save and send a test message.

The URL must use https on *.webhook.office.com or *.logic.azure.com. It is stored encrypted, and after saving only a short hint of it is shown.

What Is Shared

SurveySummary onlyInclude answers
Identified responsesSurvey name and answer countAnswers, except confidential questions
Anonymous surveySurvey name and answer countSummary only: no answers, no respondent identity
ℹ️

Answers to confidential questions are never posted to Slack or Teams, whatever the setting.

Rate Limits and Retries

Slack posting is rate-limited per survey, 20 messages per minute by default. When a survey receives more responses than that, the extra responses are summarized in a follow-up "N more responses" message and are also covered by the daily digest. If Slack or Teams answers with a 429 or 5xx status, the message is retried with back-off, honoring the Retry-After header. Self-hosters can change the limit with SLACK_NOTIFICATIONS_PER_MINUTE.

Daily Digest

The workspace daily digest posts, once a day at the UTC hour you choose, the number of completed responses each survey received in the last 24 hours. Turn on the workspace's Daily digest, then pick the Slack connection and the hour (UTC).

API

The same settings are available over the REST API:

GET  /api/v1/surveys/:surveyId/integrations
PUT  /api/v1/surveys/:surveyId/integrations
POST /api/v1/surveys/:surveyId/integrations/test      { "target": "slack" | "teams" }

GET  /api/v1/workspaces/:workspaceId/notifications/digest
PUT  /api/v1/workspaces/:workspaceId/notifications/digest
     { "enabled": true, "connectionId": "…", "hourUtc": 8 }

To send responses to other tools, see Zapier & Make and Webhooks.
