Mobile App

The ResponseDock mobile app lets you answer surveys on-the-go, view real-time results for surveys you own, and scan QR codes to instantly join a survey. It is built with Expo and runs on iOS and Android.

ℹ️

The app is coming to the App Store and Google Play; it is not available for download yet.

ℹ️
During development, run pnpm start in apps/mobile. Use a development build when testing native permissions and release behaviour; Expo Go is useful only for a quick UI check.

Signing In

The app supports platform-appropriate sign-in methods:

  • Continue with Google on Android — opens an in-app browser (SFSafariViewController on iOS / Chrome Custom Tabs on Android), completes the Google OAuth flow, and returns a session token automatically.
  • Email & password on iOS and Android — uses the same credentials as the web dashboard. Keeping iOS on the first-party login path avoids presenting a non-equivalent third-party login option.

You can also create a new account directly from the sign-in screen via the Create account tab.

Home Screen Layout

Once signed in, the home screen is divided into three sections:

  1. Join a survey — always at the top. Enter a survey code/slug or tap the QR icon to scan a QR code.
  2. My published surveys — surveys you created that are currently live (ONLINE status). Tap Answer ↗ to take the survey or Results to view analytics.
  3. Previous surveys — surveys you have already started or completed as a respondent.

Joining a Survey

By code / slug

  1. Type the survey slug (e.g. customer-onboarding-q3) into the text field.
  2. Tap Go or press the return key on the keyboard.

By QR code

  1. Tap the ⌗ button next to the Go button. The app will request camera permission if not already granted.
  2. Point the camera at a survey QR code.
  3. The app extracts the survey slug from the URL encoded in the QR code and navigates directly to the survey start screen.

Both legacy /s/<slug> links and branded workspace links in the form /w/<workspace>/s/<slug> are recognised.

Answering a Survey

  1. From the start screen, review the survey title and description, then tap Start.
  2. Answer each question on its page.
  3. Tap Next to advance or Submit on the final page.
  4. The app shows a thank-you screen. For quiz surveys a score summary is shown instead.

Web-matching theme and presentation

Published survey theme data is applied in the native renderer: primary and text colours, page and surface backgrounds, borders, button text, logo, background image, welcome image, survey banner, question images, option images, headings, text blocks, dividers, and presentation-only images. Conditional visibility and required state use the same survey engine as the web.

A survey containing an HTML-content question opens its branded hosted URL in the secure mobile browser. This is the only intentionally web-only renderer path.

Dates

Date questions are typed on the number pad and grouped as you type (2026-05-01, or 2026-05-01 14:30 when the question includes the time of day). The app checks the same calendar and earliest/latest-day rules as the web survey and the API before moving on, and shows the allowed range under the field.

Photos and files

A file-upload question offers separate Photo library andFiles actions. The app enforces the survey's accepted file types, maximum file count, maximum size, and confidential setting before uploading to the active response. Photo access is requested only when the respondent taps Photo library.

⚠️
Answers are saved in memory as you progress through pages and are submitted all at once when you tap Submit. Closing the app before submitting will lose your progress.

Privacy and account removal

Terms and Privacy links are available before sign-in and from the signed-in survey list. Signed-in users can start permanent account deletion in the app; ResponseDock emails a 24-hour confirmation link before sole-owned workspaces and their survey data are irreversibly removed. Membership and personal login data are removed from shared workspaces while the organisation's records are retained.

My Published Surveys

If you are the owner of one or more surveys that are currently live, they appear in the My published surveys section. Each card shows:

  • Survey title and description
  • Answer ↗ button — take the survey yourself (useful for testing or self-referential surveys)
  • Results button — view the live analytics screen

Survey Results Screen

The results screen shows a live snapshot of responses to your survey:

  • Header stats — total responses, completed count, completion rate
  • Per-question cards:
    • Rating / number — shows average value
    • NPS — shows NPS score, promoter/passive/detractor percentages
    • Radio / checkbox / dropdown / yes–no — shows a horizontal bar chart with counts and percentages per option
    • Text / email — shows up to 8 recent quoted answers

Use Cases

Event feedback collection

Print the survey QR code on name badges or at a booth. Attendees scan it, answer in under a minute, and you see results appear in real time on the Results screen.

Team stand-up check-ins

Create a short daily mood/blocker survey, publish it, and share the slug with your team. Everyone answers from their phone in the morning. You review results from the mobile app before the stand-up call.

Self-test before distribution

After publishing a survey, tap Answer ↗ from the My published surveys section to walk through the respondent experience on your own device before sharing the link.

Field research

A researcher can join a survey on their phone, let a participant read questions aloud, and answer on their behalf — useful for in-person usability studies without a laptop.

Configuration

By default the app connects to the production API at https://api.responsedock.com/api/v1. To point it at a local or staging API, set the environment variable before starting Metro:

EXPO_PUBLIC_API_URL=http://192.168.1.x:4001/api/v1
EXPO_PUBLIC_SURVEY_URL=https://survey.example.com
pnpm start

The local API's GOOGLE_CALLBACK_URL must also be reachable from the device — use a tool like ngrok for physical devices, or 10.0.2.2 on the Android emulator.

Before a store submission, run pnpm --filter @responsedock/mobile release:checkand follow operations/MOBILE_RELEASE.md. Universal/app links also require valid association files on the survey host for the final signing identities.
