Anonymous Responses & Source Tracking
ResponseDock separates respondent identity from source attribution. A survey can be completely anonymous while still tracking where responses come from.
Anonymity Modes
| Mode | What is stored |
|---|---|
anonymous | No name, email, external user ID, or platform user ID stored |
identified | Respondent identity linked to the response (requires SDK identify() call) |
Source Tracking Modes
| Mode | Stored fields |
|---|---|
none | No source data stored |
basic | Channel, UTM source, UTM campaign |
full | Channel, all UTM params, referrer, page URL, event/context ID, device type, approximate region |
Respondent Messaging
The survey renderer shows respondents what data is collected:
Your answers are anonymous, but this survey may collect source information such as campaign, page, or event.
For identified surveys:
Your answers are linked to your account.
Follow-up Email Collection
The optional follow-up email block collects email consent separately from survey answers. By default, follow-up contacts are stored in a separate table and not linked to the response. You can enable linking in the survey's follow-up config.
// Survey follow-up config
{
"followUpConfig": {
"enabled": true,
"title": "Stay informed",
"description": "Leave your email to receive a summary of results.",
"consentLabel": "I agree to be contacted about survey results",
"privacyNote": "Your email will not be linked to your responses.",
"linkToResponse": false,
"purpose": "results"
}
}Configuring via API

}GDPR & Data Export
Respondents can request deletion or export of their data. If a survey is anonymous, individual responses cannot be attributed to a person, so there is nothing to export. For identified surveys, use DELETE /responses/:id to fulfill deletion requests.
