How to Share and Embed a Survey

A survey has one ResponseDock record and renderer, but it can be presented on your own service. Responses from every presentation are stored against the same survey, so its author can always return to ResponseDock to preview it and review results.

How to publish a survey

  1. Create or open the survey in the ResponseDock dashboard.
  2. Finish the questions, conditions, access rules, and branding.
  3. Click Publish. Only an online survey accepts public responses.
  4. Open QR / Link in the builder, or Share in the survey list.

How to show one survey on another service

  1. Open the survey's distribution dialog and select iframe.
  2. Copy the iframe markup into a page on your service.
  3. Give the iframe container enough width; its default height is 640 pixels.
  4. Open the page on your service and complete a test response.
<iframe
  src="https://survey.responsedock.com/s/your-survey-slug"
  title="Customer survey"
  width="100%"
  height="640"
  frameborder="0"
  allow="clipboard-write"
></iframe>

How to make the shared link belong to your service

  1. Create the public page on your service and place the ResponseDock iframe on it.
  2. Copy that page's complete HTTP or HTTPS URL.
  3. In ResponseDock, open QR / Link.
  4. Paste the URL into External share URL and save it.
  5. Use Copy link or the QR code. Both now lead to your service.

The external URL changes distribution only. It does not move or duplicate the survey, and it must point to a page where you installed the internal iframe URL.

How the author views the survey in ResponseDock

  1. Sign in to the ResponseDock dashboard.
  2. Open Surveys and select the survey.
  3. Click Preview to view the current survey through an author-only preview token.
  4. Open Responses or Analytics to review data collected from either URL.

Preview always uses the ResponseDock renderer, even when an external share URL is configured. Editing and publishing also remain available in the dashboard.

How to embed surveys for signed-in users

Use a respondent embed when your service already knows the user and must control which surveys they can access. Your backend creates a short-lived, origin-bound embed URL using a secret API key; the browser receives only that URL.

  1. Add your exact service origin under Allowed embed origins.
  2. Create a secret API key and keep it on your backend.
  3. Request a respondent embed token with the allowed survey IDs and external user ID.
  4. Place the returned embedUrl in an iframe.

See Embedding Surveys for the backend request, lifecycle protocol, origin validation, theming, and duplicate-protection examples.

How to verify the complete flow

  1. Confirm the survey status is Online.
  2. Open the copied link in a private browser window and confirm it opens your service.
  3. Submit a test response inside the embedded survey.
  4. Return to ResponseDock and confirm the response appears on the same survey.
  5. Click Preview and confirm the author view still opens independently.
