ResponseDock User Guide

This guide covers the complete questionnaire workflow: create, brand, publish, embed, share, review public results, and export responses. The same survey record powers every presentation, so a response collected in your product is immediately available to authorized managers.

Create and manage a questionnaire

  1. Open Surveys, or Create & Manage in an embedded workspace.
  2. Select New Questionnaire and start manually, from a template, or with the AI designer.
  3. Add pages and question blocks. Use headings, text, dividers, and embedded images for presentation-only content.
  4. Configure validation, required answers, confidentiality, conditions, languages, and duplicate-response rules.
  5. Preview the questionnaire, then select Publish. Only an online survey accepts responses.

Make the survey belong to your product

  1. Open Branding & banner in the builder.
  2. Set the background, surface, text, border, action colors, typography, radius, and optional logo.
  3. Add a survey banner using a stable public HTTPS media URL and meaningful alternative text.
  4. In a host integration that provides a media library, choose media from the host picker. The host returns the URL to the embedded builder.
  5. Use an embedded-image block when an image is explanatory content rather than an answer field.

Runtime host themes take precedence over survey and workspace defaults. The loading state, dialogs, menus, cards, and questionnaire background use the same theme contract.

Embed without nested scrolling

The browser SDK listens to the signed iframe lifecycle protocol and updates the frame height as content changes. Let the host page own vertical scrolling and avoid a fixed iframe height.

import { ResponseDock } from 'https://survey.responsedock.com/sdk/0.2/index.js';

ResponseDock.init({
  projectKey: 'pk_live_xxxx',
  theme: hostTheme,
  callbacks: {
    onComplete: ({ surveyId }) => console.log('complete', surveyId),
    onError: ({ message }) => console.error(message),
  },
});

const embed = ResponseDock.embed('workspace/questionnaire-slug', '#questionnaire');

// When your SPA removes this route:
embed?.destroy();

Privileged embedded workspaces use short-lived, origin-bound URLs created by your backend. Never put a ResponseDock secret API key in browser code.

Create a branded link and QR code

  1. Place the survey on a public page under your own domain.
  2. Open QR / Link in the builder or Share from the survey list.
  3. Save the host page as the External share URL.
  4. Copy the link or download/use the QR code. Both lead to your domain; the internal renderer URL remains unchanged.

Publish read-only results

  1. Open the survey settings and enable Public results page.
  2. Copy the generated public results link or QR code.
  3. In a host workspace, open the Results tab to see surveys whose results were made public.
  4. Disable public results at any time to remove anonymous access to that results page.

Download responses

Authorized users can select Download Excel workbook on a survey response page, or Download all responses from the embedded survey menu. ResponseDock shows a persistent preparation status and starts the download automatically. The workbook contains response data in a format suitable for Excel; confidential answers remain restricted to the survey author.

Production checklist

  • The survey is online and its questions, conditions, and presentation media were previewed.
  • The exact host origin is listed under Allowed embed origins.
  • Secret keys remain on the host backend and embed URLs are generated on demand.
  • The iframe accepts messages only from the exact ResponseDock origin and its own window.
  • The host tests resize, completion, session expiry, theme updates, downloads, and mobile layouts.
  • A private-browser submission appears in ResponseDock and, when enabled, on the public results page.
